More than 400 swimmers to vie for Gran Retto Cuba 2024

More than 400 athletes from eight countries will be competing from tomorrow Saturday, in the III Gran Retto Cuba 2024 Open Water Crossing, as reported today by the organizers at a press conference.
Based in the famous Varadero resort, the event aims to promote the development of a sporting modality that combines physical effort with the natural beauty of one of the most famous beaches in the world.
Luis Mario Villarreal, general director of Gran Retto, a Mexican company specialized in the organization of this type of mass events, declared at the Barceló-Arenas Blancas hotel, that competitors from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, the United States, the Bahamas, Guatemala, Peru and the host country have registered.
«Cuba was selected because the setting is incomparable and they are our allies. “I feel at home here with so much human warmth,” added Villarreal, who said that 80 percent of the competitors are repeating from the previous edition.
Nelson Garcia, Cuban swimming commissioner, said that a total of 16 athletes from the national team from various categories will participate and one of the objectives of the competition was to show the world the organizational capacity of the largest island in the Caribbean.
The great maritime adventure is sponsored by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, Cubadeportes and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) and with the support of the agencies Havanatur S.A. and Taino Tours.
