True luxury duels marked today the second competitive day of volleyball at the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris 2024 with two matches held for each gender.

Among the women, the strong cast of Italy, current champion of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) after beating Japan in the final this year, beat the Dominican Republic 3-1 with partial scores of 25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18.

The Caribbean team could not withstand the onslaught of the bronze medalists in the last world championship of the discipline and succumbed in one hour and 39 minutes, in a duel corresponding to group C of the competition.

In Group B, Poland also beat Japan 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 28-26) in a clash in which the Europeans handled the end of each set better, especially the third and fourth.

Men, for their part, experienced a true clash of titans in Group A between the defending champion of Tokyo 2020, France, and a very combative Serbian team.

Also golden in the 2024 VNL, the French after falling in the first set 23-25 recovered with a double 25-17 in the following; but, they succumbed 21-25 in the fourth to leave the table set for the tie break.

An overwhelming 15-6 removed any possibility of surprise for the locals, not without shocks typical of the excellent game played by the Serbians.

With the men’s match between Slovenia and Canada, won 3-1 by the Europeans, the Sunday action of the so-called sport of the high net came to a close.
