Rome, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (Anaic) launched a new call for fundraising to help the island in the wake of the disaster caused by Hurricane Ian in the western part of the country, a spokesman said today.
An Anaic spokesman told Prensa Latina that the donations will be mainly destined to support the province of Pinar del Río, the most affected by the strong storm that caused the death of two people and considerable material damages.
This call is in addition to those made in May and August of this year after an explosion at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana and the fire that affected a supertanker base in the province of Matanzas, respectively, the source said.
Last August 8, the president of that association, Marco Papacci, told Prensa Latina about a donation amounting to 11 thousand euros sent to Cuba as solidarity aid after the fire in Matanzas.
These funds from Anaic, created in 1961 and which groups more than 4,500 affiliates, were added to another 10,000 Euros previously contributed to support the emergency efforts generated after the accidental explosion which occurred in the Saratoga hotel.
