Holguin’s health sector develops new innovations

The health sector in Holguin province is promoting a group of new innovations as part of the implementation of the science and technology-based government system, one of Cuba’s development priorities.
Yanexy Pérez González, director of this branch at the University of Medical Sciences, told the Cuban News Agency that among the main research projects are a system of physical therapeutic exercises for hip fracture patients and games used to improve fine motor skills in children with cerebral palsy.
She specified that these protocols propose to improve the patients’ quality of life through alternatives aimed at reducing hospital stay and clinical evolution, as well as facilitating their incorporation into society.
The expert indicated that the studies are implemented in primary and secondary care, with the extension of follow-up to the family doctor’s and nurse practitioner’s offices.
She also said that facilities are being deployed to replace imported staples with others of national manufacture, with the same quality and functionality.
Medical science students in different modalities also participate in this research, which contributes to the professional training of their students, explained Pérez González.
The health sector in the province of Holguin also promotes the computerization of society. The use of modern technologies in the management of hospital services and improvement by having more than 60 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in technical and higher education.
