Guillermo Carmona: “There Is a Lot of Rivalry with Mayabeque”

Industriales manager Guillermo Carmona described the matchup against Mayabeque in the quarterfinals of the 64th Cuban National Baseball Series as a derby, due to the presence of several Havana-born players on the Huracanes roster, including their manager, Osmel Cordero. In addition, several natives of the young province of Mayabeque have previously served as reinforcements for the Blues.
The veteran strategist acknowledged that his team must play with intensity against this opponent, which defeated Industriales at Estadio Latinoamericano in three of their five games during the qualifying stage and also finished the championship with the best pitching staff.
Carmona referred to the work being carried out these days at the Colossus of Cerro to maintain competitive form after such a long break while awaiting the start of the postseason. He also confirmed the first three starting pitchers for this decisive stage: Raymond Figueredo, Remberto Barreto, and Carlos M. Cuesta.
“We are doing exercises that closely resemble game situations. Above all, the pitchers are facing hitters, and we have also held some intra-squad games,” Carmona explained. “I was telling the players that this will be a kind of derby, as if we were facing Metropolitanos, because of the presence of athletes who were previously here with us. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the young coaching staff and the players for the great job they have done in the Series.”
The Lions continue their preparations at their headquarters, Estadio Latinoamericano, as they await the start of the quarterfinals of the 64th Cuban National Baseball Series, where they will face the Mayabeque Huracanes.
