The Cuban 800-meter flat runners, Rose Mary Almanza and Saily Diago, won the gold and silver medals, respectively, in athletics at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador.

At the Jorge "El Mágico" González National Stadium, Almanza, owner of three titles in the regional event of Barranquilla 2018, reached the finish line in 2:01.75 minutes, in a race in which she was strong since the beginning.

Diago (2:02.81 min) also had a good performance in the double lap and won the silver medal, to make Cuba's first 1-2 win in the king of sports of that multi-sport event.

Shaliqua Maloney (2:04.98 min), from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, won bronze, according to data from statistician Wilber Rodríguez.

Also this Wednesday for Cuba, Miguel Zamora won the bronze medal in disc throwing with a mark of 72.63 meters to occupy third place on the podium; while his partner Ronald Mencía (71.32 m) finished in the fourth position.

Both athletes had stable performances in their attempts, but it was not enough for a better ranking, in a test won by Puerto Rican Jerome Vega (74.83 m).

Vega defeated Mexican Diego del Real (74.57 m), who was champion five years ago in Colombia.

With this performance by Almanza, Cuban athletics now holds three gold medals in Salvadoran lands, where on Tuesday the hurdel racer Zurian Hechavarría and long jumper Alejandro Parada won the first titles for Cuba in that sport.
