Cienfuegos, Cuba, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) Singer-songwriter Lázaro García, one of the founders of the Nueva Trova Movement in Cuba, died today in his hometown, at the age of 74.

When the Provincial Committee of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, in Cienfuegos, who was also one of its initiators, announced the loss, he expressed that the group deeply regretted the event.

García was born on December 31, 1947 in this city, 245 kilometers southeast of Havana, and in his artistic career he spoke with leading figures of Cuban music such as Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Vicente Feliú, Noel Nicola and Sara González. , among others.

Among his main awards was the Grand Prize of the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban Music Contest, in 1984.

During over half a century of artistic life he appeared on stages in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Spain, France and Bolivia, the latter country where in May 1980 he was arrested by members of the military government of General Luis Garcia Mesa.
