China ranked the Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control mechanism at the top of its 10 scientific achievements during 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology reported.

The combination of restrictions on mobility, epidemiological surveillance and the use of high technology, among other actions, allowed the country in less than four months to stop the massive spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and deaths from that disease.

In this context, China developed 16 vaccine candidates with various techniques, made the commercialization of the four most advanced ones official, and has also applied them since last July to more than 40 million compatriots.

Moreover, the list of the country's scientific advances includes the Chang'e 5 mission, which collected samples from the Moon, the descent of the Fendouzhe submersible into the Las Marianas Trench and a study on the transmission of genetic materials between humans.

There is also the measuring of Mount Everest, the research on the evolution and different migrations of the Chinese in ancient times, and a program that recreates the changes that have occurred in biodiversity during more than 300 million years.
