The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Cuba, Isabel Brilhante, visited here today several emblematic monuments accompanied by authorities from the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH).

Brilhante, who has been representing the bloc’s delegation since July last year, toured the oldest area of ​​the Historic Center and learned details about the progress of rehabilitation works to be in this capital.

According to OHCH sources, the site chosen to start the guided walk was El Templete, a building that contains the foundational essences of the Cuban capital, added to the birth of the city and its system of fortifications declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

The deputy director of the OHCH, Perla Rosales, and Michael González, director of Cultural Heritage of the institution, extended the invitation to Brilhante to celebrate in that place the traditional meeting on the eve of the anniversary of Havana, next November 16, when the 503 years of the so-called Wonder City are celebrated.

The walk continued towards the central area of ​​the Plaza de Armas, to appreciate the monument of the father of the Nation, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, and the former Palace of the General Captains, today a city museum, whose recovery testified to the efforts enduring tales of the late historian Eusebio Leal.

Other places visited were the Doña Leonor Pérez Maternity Home and the Belén Convent, managed by the OHCH Humanitarian Affairs Directorate, as well as a protected residence for the elderly, located on the corner of San Ignacio street.
