The “family photo” is not the most important thing. And speeches are usually diplomatic formalities or just a general statement of principles. The most important aspects of regional summits are the plausible results for citizens, the implementation of mechanisms that may lead to the improvement of the life quality of the people. The recently concluded Summit of CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States), despite the absence of major nations of the region, succeeded in coordinating effective strategies to addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, which is now one of the greatest challenges of the region.

Vaccines for all: that is the goal. Cuba offered the Community its experience and concrete achievements. They were not just words. In this challenging time for the nation, Cuban scientists have developed more than just one immunogenic against Covid-19, which have met the requirements of the global health authorities.

Cuba’s Latin American integrationist vocation is not just formal courtesy. And some nations thanked Cuba’s contribution to their respective health systems. Much have been done and can be done with the support of a Latin American institutional system. CELAC may and must go beyond formal statements. Actions, more than words.

Unity among diversity: that is the vital concept. Some heads of states insisted on highlighting the existing differences from very interventionist stances. And all were given a dignified reply. But CELAC cannot become a space for ideological fights (Latin American right was happy in its common ground), but a meeting ground for effective work. The Latin American integration processes must start, precisely, from the implementation of actions.
