With an extensive program of activities, the days for Cuban Culture begin today and end on October 20, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of writer Alejo Carpentier and art instructors..

These celebrations will begin in Havana with the screening of the film Comunidad (Community), the premiere of the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba, at 2 p.m local time at the Yara Cinema Hall.

On October 11th, children's songs will be performed in all schools across the country to commemorate the legacy of musician and composer Joseíto Fernández (1908-1979) on the 45th anniversary of his death.

During the nationwide celebrations, events will include concerts, book launches, screenings of Cuban films, as well as talks by renowned intellectuals and artists.

All provinces' symphony orchestras will have programs celebrating Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier's 120th birthday. Performances will include Cuban music and works by important composers like Amadeo Roldán and Alejandro García Caturla, who influenced Carpentier's works on Cuban music.

According to the Deputy Minister of Culture Lizette Martínez, the main focus of the days will once again be on community and the work of major cultural institutions across the nation. She highlighted the role played by art instructors who have contributed to art education across Cuba.

October 20, Cuban Culture Day, celebrates when Cuba first sang its national anthem.
