Cuban Arlenis Sierra, multiple Pan American champion and winner of world cycling competitions, finished 53rd in the road race of the World Cycling Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland.
In the 154.1-km-long race from Loch Lomond to Glasgow that only 86 of the 210 registered athletes managed to complete, Sierra crossed the finish line 14:49 minutes behind the Belgian Lotte Kopecky, who won with 4:02:12 h and was followed seven seconds later by the Dutch Demi Vollering and the Danish Cecilie Ludwing.
The legendary Dutch star Annemiek van Vleuten, Sierra’s teammate in the Spanish club Movistar, had a mechanical problem with her bike and finished eighth, so she could not retain the event's rainbow jersey.
Sierra has performed very well in the last World Championships, as she was fifth in 2021 in Belgium and sixth in 2022 in Australia, in both cases one second behind the champions of the two races, Italy's Elisa Balsamo and Van Vleuten, respectively.
