With an essential role in government management based on science and innovation, the University of Sancti Spiritus “ Jose Marti Perez” (Uniss), in this central city, strengthens nowadays several projects linked to digital transformation, Renewable Energy Sources, Transportation, in addition to the scope of its work in neighborhoods and communities.

Master of Science Jarvin Anton Vargas, professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Technical and Economic Sciences, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the incorporation of the Digital Manufacturing Classroom, one of the initiatives conceived by a young group of different areas, is among the contributions of the institution that is heading towards the 41st anniversary of the beginning of Higher Education in the territory.

He explained that this is a project that aims to link three main lines for the development of other programs and the nation: digital manufacturing itself as a support for the so-called Internet of Things, the creation of communication applications that facilitate the measurement of certain variables by means of sensors and Artificial Intelligence.

According to the source, one of the areas they are focusing on is related to climate variables and their impact on agriculture, a strategic sector for Cuba, and he said that, although among the objectives of the classroom is the use of Artificial Intelligence algorithms to extract data collected over a period of time, it can also be used in the automation of premises, for example.
We are in a process of capacity building, of permanent preparation of personnel, the latter a vital factor because it is a space where one can come with an idea and find the conditions to make it a reality, he added.

Aware of the impact that initiatives like this have on the solution of problems at Uniss or in different areas of the economy and society in general, we work here with professionals from different fields such as Informatics, Cybernetics, Mechanics, Agronomy or Meteorology and in close alliance with Agriculture or with scientific centers.

Thanks to the project Renewable Energy Sources to Support Local Development (FRE Local by its Spanish acronym), financed by the European Union and coordinated by Uniss, more than twenty settlements in several Cuban provinces are now benefiting from the use of more efficient and environmentally friendly systems, which in turn is part of the country's efforts to extend these practices.

Implemented on the country at the international level by the United Nations Development Program, FRE Local has been extended, above all, to rural or isolated areas in the central and eastern regions, a process in which the Center for Energy and Industrial Processes Studies of this institution has played a decisive role.
