Canberra, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's ambassador to Australia, Ariel Lorenzo Rodríguez, highlighted the unity on the island in the defense of its independence and sovereignty in the face of U.S. hostility, diplomatic sources reported.
The Cuban people have managed to forge this union in a hostile context of economic war with a blockade imposed by the U.S. government for more than six decades, the diplomat said at an event in Canberra on the 69th anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.
Before members of the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS), solidarity friends and representatives of Venezuela, Lorenzo Rodriguez also recalled the patriotic deed carried out on July 26, 1953 by a group of young revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro against the dictator Fulgencio Batista.
Prior to the activity in tribute to Cuba’s National Rebellion Day, a virtual seminar was organized by the Cruz del Sur Solidarity Brigade and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
