Cuban parliamentarian meets with MEPs in Belgium

The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and parliamentarian, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, met on Tuesday with members of the Confederal Group of the European United Left (GUE/NGL) in this capital.
The first meeting took place with the co-president of the group, German MEP Martin Schirdewan, and later he met with European Parliament Vice-President Dimitrios Papadimoulis, also a member of the GUE/NGL.
At both meetings, they reviewed the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the progress of the vaccination program in Cuba, as well as the tightening of the United States blockade against the Caribbean island and its economic impact.
Gonzalez, a national hero due to his fight against terrorism, thanked the political forces of the European left for their support for and solidarity with Cuba, and in particular for their constant demand for an end to the US blockade.
Both parties also agreed to promote actions and meetings to develop relations between the Cuban National Assembly and the European Parliament.
The Cuban delegation, headed by Fernando Gonzalez, also includs Tania Crombet, clinical director of the Center for Molecular Immunology, and singer Anni Garces, who were accompanied by Cuban Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, Norma Goicoechea Estenoz.
Last Friday, the ICAP president kicked off a European tour that began in Portugal and includes Belgium, where he will stay until Sunday to participate in the Manifesta Festival organized by the Workers' Party.
Later he will will travel to France and Spain.
