Led by world champions Amalia González and Daylenis Vázquez, the Cuban para-powerlifting squad arrived in this capital today to participate in the VI Youth Parapan American Games, scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 9.

Raúl Fornés Valenciano, First Vice President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (Inder), heading this mission, welcomed the team. He expressed confidence that they will deliver an outstanding performance.

The athletes from Granma province, who lead the team, won titles at the recent world championship in Egypt, where they secured three gold medals and one silver.

González contributed her medals in the Rookie (school-age) category, in the 45-kilogram division, where she broke the world record four times. Her compatriot Vázquez added gold and silver in the 41 kg New Generation (youth) category.

The Full Delegation

The team is completed by fellow Granma athletes Daniuvis Díaz (55 kg) and Ailyn Caraballo (73 kg), Santiago's Bárbara Rivera (61 kg), Matanzas' Yoidel Queralta (72 kg), Guantanamo's Erlis González (49 kg), and Ronny Pérez (59 kg), also from Granma.

Alongside the experienced coach Ramón Martínez, the delegation includes psychologist Madelín González and physician Jorge David Calante.

Also present at the welcoming event were Oscar Beltrán, Secretary of the Cuban Paralympic Committee, and technical director Jorge Palma.

Competition Schedule

The para-powerlifting tournament is scheduled for November 7, 8, and 9 in O'Higgins, a commune in the southern zone of Chile, in the Capitán Prat province, located approximately 85 kilometers from the nation's capital.
