HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 18 (ACN) Cuban discus thrower Mario Diaz did poorly in the qualifying round of his specialty in the 28th World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, U.S.A., where he finished 22nd and failed to rank among the top twelve.
Díaz’s best throw was 60.83 m, a far cry from his all-time and season best (65.21 m), although it’s fair to say that a better result was difficult after almost no international competitions.
The Lithuanian Mykolas Alekna led the classification to the final with 68.91 m, followed by the Slovenian Kristjan Ceh (68.23 m) and the Swedish Simon Pettersson (68.11 m).
