A delegation led by the President of the National Assembly of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, visited today the site where, 50 years ago, Angolans and Cubans proclaimed victory over invaders and separatists in Cabinda.
The delegation, which also includes Heroes of the Republic and participants in Cuban military cooperation in Angola, Corps General Joaquín Quintas Solá and Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, visited Ntó, the site of the historic triumph.
In the northern Angolan province, the delegation was received by the Vice-Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Juliano Capita, who welcomed them and conveyed greetings from Governor Suzana Abreu.
Lazo, for his part, addressed the friendly and cooperative relations between the two nations and provided details on the current situation of the Caribbean nation. He spoke about the recovery process following Hurricane Melissa and the implementation of measures to confront the economic crisis.
Subsequently, the delegation traveled to the town of Ntó, where the sons of the Caribbean nation left their mark in one of the key battles that consolidated Angola's independence.
There, they held a meeting with members of the General Staff of the Cabinda Military Region and the Tenth Motorized Infantry Brigade. The unit's commander, Brigadier Miguel Casimiro Madia, referred to the historical ties of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
He highlighted the assistance provided by Cuba to Angola, both in military training and in equipment and resources, as well as jointly confronting the enemies of the nascent Republic.
The Cuban delegation also visited the province's general hospital, an institution noted for its organization and modern equipment, where more than 40 Cuban collaborators provide services and work as teachers training new specialists.
The President of the Parliament met with these collaborators and learned details about their work in these lands. The Cuban delegation traveled to Angola to participate in the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of national independence. It is also integrated by the President of the Parliament's International Relations Commission, Alberto Núñez, and the Director for Sub-Saharan Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luis Amorós.
