Artificial Intelligence (AI) is employed in urology to facilitate the early detection of urological pathologies, a health problem in Latin America, a foreign specialist said at the 22nd National Congress of Urology taking place in this capital.

Concerning prostate cancer, AI can optimize surgical treatment and improve patient selection through the incorporation of images and clinical and genomic information, Ana María Autrán, Director of Communications at the American Confederation of Urology (CAU), added in statements to Prensa Latina.

Artificial Intelligence works through the accumulation of information and data, where logarithms are processed to predict the patient’s prognosis and thus detect the appropriate treatment, Autrán explained.

The Mexican expert, who is based in Spain, acknowledged that there are many difficulties in Latin America in implementing AI due to the availability of resources and the need for training.

To develop this technology, we must focus on continuous training with programs that allow us to incorporate it into our clinical practice, besides carrying out prospective studies with increasing weight to know how to introduce this procedure and the research joined to it, she suggested.
