Havana, March 3 (RHC)-- With the intention of promoting a life free of violence through the screen, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) supports the production of short films that deal with this matter.

The audiovisual projects “Vamos a Jugar”, by Osmanys Sánchez Arañó, and “Cuando el viento estremece las hojas”, by Lisa María Velázquez Serrano, both winners of the contest organized by this institution, to prevent abuse of women and girls on the island, stand out.

The decision to support the production of these works was made by a jury made up of filmmakers, activists and representatives of Icaic's Directorate of Artistic Creation.

According to the Cubacine digital web, both presentations deal with stories based on relationships that expose the different forms of violence, and at the same time, take into account the quality and feasibility of the projects.

The contest is part of a series of works that are being lunched and promoted by Icaic, which will be announced progressively, including contests of equality, non-discrimination and the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community.

The award-winning projects of this first experience were the documentary “Hermanos”, by Osmanys Sánchez Arañó and the fiction short films “Una canción para ti”, by Melvin Rocco and “Azul Pandora”, by Alán González, while the filmmakers of Adre, Exuvia, HappyBDay and La cuna received an advisory workshop on the theme and script.

Icaic will also launch other spaces dedicated to vindicate from the seventh art the policies and practices aimed at promoting equality and non-discrimination based on race or gender, as well as highlighting the role of youth in the different moments of the history of the struggles on the island.
