Cuban Boxers Put to the Test on Professional Card in Varadero

Two title defenses, a second professional outing, and four professional debuts will define Cuba's involvement in the professional boxing program scheduled for the evening of November 29 at the Meliá Internacional Hotel in Varadero.

Triple amateur world champion Lázaro Álvarez and Paris 2024 Olympic titlist Erislandy Álvarez will face seasoned opponents in 10-round bouts as they seek to retain their World Boxing Association (WBA) belts, which were won on April 11 at the same tourist facility under the auspices of the promoter Agon Sports.

Both Lázaro and Erislandy remain undefeated as professionals, with nine and five outings, respectively, and "have the talent necessary to prevail," according to the digital edition of the sports publication JIT.

Aiming for a second victory in the professional ranks, Yunier Sorsano will step into the ring. He impressed in his debut by scoring a first-round knockout against Mexico's Javier Castaneda.

Meanwhile, Saidel Horta, Alejandro Claro, Nelson Williams, and Keylor García will be making their professional debuts. The first two are backed by their respective amateur world silver and bronze medals, but their opponents each have more than 15 professional fights.

The evening, which will begin at 7:00 PM local time, will also feature two additional bouts animated by foreign fighters.
