Havana, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) The cultural action Plaza Belga en la Plaza Vieja, scheduled for today, will take place in Havana's Historic Center with visual arts exhibitions, a parade of living statues and a concert that unites artists from Cuba and Belgium.
According to the ambassador of that European nation on the island, Jean-Luc Bastien, we want to link our cultures through this initiative that complements the activities of the 17th Belgian Week in Havana.
For the occasion, musicians Steven de Bryn and Jasper Hauutekiet arrive in the capital invited to a special presentation in honor of the remarkable jazz guitarist, harmonica player and composer Toots Thielemans, on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
The event becomes a cultural showcase for the country of surrealism, chocolate, beer and cartoon characters such as The Smurfs, according to its organizers, who are seeking an exchange between the Havana public and Belgian artists.
Other proposals will include the exhibition “Around Belgium in comics” by the Kronikas collective, one of the platforms for workshops on that manifestation on the island.
Until Nov. 15, the event’s agenda includes 10 venues throughout the Cuban capital, among them the Cuban Art Factory, the Valonia Showcase, the Chullima Workshop, La Zorra y el Cuervo, the 23rd and 12th Cinemas and, additionally, the Jose White Hall in the western province of Matanzas.
