Cuba urges to avoid self-medication, excessive use of antimicrobials

Havana, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Xenia Madrazo, Director-General the ¨8 de Marzo¨ Pharmaceutical Company, on Tuesday urged all Cubans to avoid self-medication and make a rational use of antimicrobials.

We´re facing a dangerous phenomenon called by the scientific community as ‘microbial resistance’, and although many people minimize it, it has already become a health problem, Madrazo told Prensa Latina on the 4th Day for the Rational Use of Antimicrobials.

Such a situation is real, it coexists with us, and every day it causes more deaths and leaves specialists without options to treat common infections, Madrazo stated.
