Cuba on Wednesday received a donation of 26 tons of medical supplies from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) with funds from the Russian Federation.
Four 40-foot containers with broad-spectrum antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as means to control non-communicable diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and heart diseases, arrived in the Cuban capital.
Among the expendable materials are sutures, surgical sets, instruments, hydrating and disinfectant solutions, various types of trocars and syringes.
Sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, glucometers and oximeters, among others, make up the load of equipment.
Sergei Oboznov, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Russian Federation here, emphasized the special nature of the friendly relations and solidarity between Havana and Moscow.
The purpose of this donation is to help Cuba recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Ian in 2022, and overcome the current humanitarian situation in the country, which has been the target of an economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.
We will not cease to denounce that cruel and inhuman policy against Cuba, precisely now when Russia is also the victim of measures to isolate it from the world.
In the face of the current complex situation, Russia is always ready to reach out to its friends, Oboznov said.
