Cuba has pre-registered in the French capital 138 competitors in 18 sports before the organizing committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to be held July 26 to August 11 this year.

Jose Antonio Miranda, general director of high performance of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder by its Spanish acronym), explained that the requirement to reduce at this stage the lists of eligible athletes was fulfilled, as a preview to the definitive validation of the participants.

The digital edition of the sports publication JIT also reported on Monday from Paris that Miranda added that the list presented by Cuba is in line with the 35 quotas already obtained and the analysis carried out regarding the expected increase of the delegation that will represent it in the Olympic Games.

The director recalled that the places secured so far were contributed by exponents of wrestling - Greco-Roman and freestyle - (10), athletics (6), boxing (4), canoeing (2), cycling (1), weightlifting (1), rowing (2), modern pentathlon (1), taekwondo (2), table tennis (2) and shooting (4).

He specified that in addition to the new quota contributions expected in several of these sports, the other berths must be obtained in judo, diving, beach volleyball, volleyball, artistic gymnastics, swimming and triathlon.

Miranda said that the aspirations are to have 70 to 90 athletes and to ratify Cuba among the first 20 Olympic powers.
