Havana, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban border troops neutralized a dangerous international drug trafficking operation that was transporting 929.32 kg of marijuana to the north of the western province of Guantanamo, Granma newspaper reported on Friday.

On Saturday, April 10, the Central Command Post of the Directorate of Border Guard Troops, with the participation of the Punta de Maisi Radio Technical Post and two naval units headquartered in Baracoa, detected a speedboat with three Bahamians aboard.

The boat with two outboard motors, with the registration number of one of the Bahamian islands, was detected at about 17:41 hours by the Visual Observation Service of the aforementioned Radio Technical Post.

The Cuban authorities initiated the pursuit by two boats that departed from their permanent base in Baracoa, the text refers.

In accordance with the cooperative relations, the Cuban Coast Guard immediately informed the US Coast Guard of the pursuit in real time.

After 6:30 p.m., after neutralizing one of the engines, the Bahamians showed resistance, disobeyed the arrest order, began to throw containers of drugs into the sea and to dump a tank of fuel inside the naval vessel.

According to the press release, those actions had the presumed intention of setting fire to the vessel and throwing themselves into the sea to eliminate all pieces of evidence, which could also cause the explosion of the Cuban military vessel.

However, the quick action of the Cuban troops allowed their capture, 66 bales with 406 packages of marijuana were seized between the drug thrown into the sea and the one hidden inside the vessel.
