Madrid, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and Galicia have strengthened historical ties with the inauguration in Lancara of the Angel Castro House Museum, a journey to the roots of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

As Prensa Latina learned from official sources on Friday, the opening of the house museum, called Angel Castro House Museum and Galician Emigration Interpretation Center, was attended by important prominent figures.

It coincided with the 30th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s visit to his father’s birthplace in Lancara and 17 years after his brother Raul visited it in 2005.

The simple ceremony in the small Galician town in Lugo province was attended by Jose Tome Roca, president of the Provincial Council, Javier Arias Fouz, territorial delegate of the Junta de Galicia in Lugo, and direct relatives such as Emma, sister of Fidel and Raul, Mariela Castro, daughter of Raul, and Marite Lopez, second cousin, among others.

Government subdelegate in Lugo Maria Isabel Rodriguez Lopez, Lancara Deputy Mayor Pablo Rivera Capon, and Cuban Ambassador to Spain Marcelino Medina also attended the event.

Local residents, Galician citizens from other nearby cities, Cuban residents in several European regions, representatives of several political parties and solidarity groups in Galicia, attended the inauguration to remember Angel Castro Argiz, “a Galician citizen who emigrated to Cuba.”

In his speech, the Cuban ambassador highlighted the importance for the Caribbean nation to have a place that serves as a reference of the historical ties between Cuba and Galicia.

Medina made a special mention to Carlos Lopez Sierra, honorary president of the Lancara-Cuba Friendship Association, who long promoted the development of this work.

After cutting the ribbon to open the event and on behalf of the family, Mariela Castro Espin delivered the Association’s president Antonio Ruben Lopez a letter sent by Raul Castro for the occasion, in which he expressed with great emotion his satisfaction for the purpose that has been given to the house.

This closes a cycle of several years of intense work to achieve the remodeling and restoration of the house, and turn it into a reference center and archive of the great epic that the Galician emigration to the Americas was.
