Cuba has assigned more than US$300 million to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, by investing on purchasing PCR tests and molecular biology lab, Alejandro Gil, Economy Minister, said.

Gil stated that this figure includes no other expenses such as isolation centers and transportation for suspected, positive and convalescent coronavirus cases.

The Minister stressed that the first four months of the year are marked by acute battle against the fresh Covid-19 outbreak, affecting the country´s economy.

'The pandemic has impacts that can be calculated because these are expenditures, but there are other indirect effects that cannot be accurately seen,' Gil said.

When assessing Cuba´s domestic economy behavior so far in 2021, Alejandro Gil mentioned the effects on the country´s productive system, the closure of non-state sector´s businesses (house rental, restaurants and bars), laying stress on some tourist resorts and its negative results for families and Cuban economy.
