Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo revealed in an interview with Piers Morgan published this Tuesday that he plans to retire "soon."
The Al Nassr player shared his reflections on his future retirement in a conversation with British presenter Piers Morgan, published on the YouTube platform.
"It will be soon, but I think I will be prepared," he confessed when asked when he plans to hang up his boots.
"It will be tough, of course. Will it be difficult? Yes. Probably I will cry, yes. I am an open person. It will be very, very difficult," confessed the 40-year-old Portuguese star.
"But I have been preparing my future since I was 25, 26, or 27 years old. So I think I will be able to withstand the pressure," he added.
Ronaldo, the author of 952 goals in his career, is one of the most decorated footballers in the history of the sport. He recently extended his contract with the club Al Nassr until 2027.
Life After Football
The Portuguese star believes he will be able to live without football and confessed that he wishes to focus on his family and other interests.
"Nothing will compare to the adrenaline you have in football when you score a goal," he said. "But everything has a beginning and an end. I have other passions. I will have more time for myself, I will have more time for my family and to educate my children."
"I want to follow Cristiano Junior because he is at an age where kids do stupid things. I was the same. Mateo also loves football."
"I want to do more fun things. I love playing padel with my best friends. We are becoming quite good," he revealed.
A Storied Career
Having begun his career with Sporting Portugal, Ronaldo subsequently played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.
During his first spell with the Manchester club, he won the Premier League three times and lifted his first Champions League trophy, among other honors. With Real Madrid, he won the Champions League four more times, in addition to two league titles.
On an individual level, he was awarded the Ballon d'Or five times.
At the end of 2022, he signed for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, following a second, less fruitful stint with Manchester United.
