An open letter from the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba and Just Causes addressed to the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, was released on Saturday.  The letter expresses concern over Brazil's veto to prevent the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from joining the BRICS group as a partner.

The letter is signed by Norberto "Champa" Galiotti, General Coordinator of the Network.

The letter questions the arguments offered by the Brazilian president to veto Venezuela's entry, which were based on questioning the presidential elections in the land of Simon Bolivar, while not questioning the admission of monarchies that have not held presidential elections ever.

The organization condemns the lack of response from its government to the U.S. blockades against the Venezuelan nation, and the inventions of a self-proclaimed president and other mechanisms of clear interference, with predatory and unfavorable interests for Venezuelans.

The open letter points out that the Brazilian president has not raised his voice against the terrorist, coup-monger and destabilizing actions manifested in attempted invasions, political and cultural events on the border with Colombia with destabilizing purposes, the theft of gold reserves in banks in the United Kingdom and the theft of a Venezuelan cargo plane by the American and Argentinian presidents.

Galiotti recommends that the president not be "a continuator of the policy of Michel Temer, who together with Mauricio Macri and Horacio Cartés prevented Venezuela from assuming the pro tempore presidency of Mercosur" and seriously damaged this multilateral body.  "All this at the request of the U.S. State Department," says the signatory of the letter.

He also rebukes and alludes to actions carried out by Lula: "Where is the NO TO FTAA that together with Hugo Chavez, Néstor Kirchner and Tabaré Vázquez carried out in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, on November 5, 2005?"

To conclude, the letter quotes Florindo Moretti, a long-time leader of the Communist Party of Argentina: “… If you do not know which side of the struggle you should stand on, look where your enemy, imperialism, is standing.  Then you stand on the opposite side. That is the right place.”
