A company’s subsidiary in Wuhan city, central China, obtained samples taken directly from a patient and soon started to develop the vaccines so as to begin animal testings.

So far, China has reported only one monkeypox case in its mainland, while Hong Kong and Taiwan regions have detected several infected in the last two months.

All of those people arrived from abroad.

Hong Kong started to administer the Jynneos monkeypox vaccine, developed by Danish firm Bavarian Nordic, to people aged 18 and older and more vulnerable groups.

China has ruled out a large-scale spread of monkeypox cases, although it has stepped up vigilance and caution in people most sensible to contracting the disease.
