The LIAT airline, the oldest in the Caribbean, will carry out demonstrative flights under a new form of management in search of the certifications that will allow it to resume passenger transportation, interrupted due to budgetary problems. This Thursday, an ATR aircraft will fly from Antigua and Barbuda to St. Kitts and Nevis on the first trip under the LIAT 2020 format, resulting from an agreement with the Nigerian Air Peace.

Tomorrow there will be another test run but to St. Lucia, and both routes will carry a crew from the company plus functionaries from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority, in charge of giving the go-ahead to restart commercial operations.

If the required guarantees are obtained, the airline would be one step closer to returning to the skies after it the closure of its services last January with the dissolution of the LIAT (1974) Ltd format due to capital shortfalls.

The agreement on the airline’s rescue stipulates a fund of nearly $30 million to maintain services in the region in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner, while Air Peace pledged to provide three additional aircraft.
