Beijing, Apr 24 (Prensa Latina) Beijing hosted on Saturday its half marathon with a limit of 10,000 participants and strict health measures to curb any possibility of Covid-19 resurgence.

The competition included a course of more than 21,000 kilometers that started in the downtown Tian'anmen Square and ended at the Olympic Park.

The winner among the men completed the route in one hour, four minutes and 53 seconds, while the winner among the women had a time of one hour, 10 minutes and 35 seconds.

Local authorities only accepted permanent residents of Beijing and required negative health test results to prove that they were free of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

This race emerged in 1956 with a lower profile and barely a thousand participants. However, over the years it gained relevance until it became by 2016 a half marathon and involved over 20,000 people.

Its 2020 edition was cancelled due to the outbreak in Beijing of the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus.
