Havana, March 7 (RHC) The secretary-general of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), Teresa Amarelle, highlighted in Havana that attention to gender violence and the approval of policies in the labor scenario are among the achievements of the Program for the Advancement of Women.

During a workshop to evaluate the implementation of this government program approved a year ago, the leader mentioned the approval of the Comprehensive Strategy for the Prevention and Attention to Gender Violence in the Family Scenario.

She also emphasized the growth of the female labor force in Cuba from 37 to 39 percent and the unpaid work project that establishes the basis for a National System for the integral care of life.

Clotilde Proveyer Cervantes, a professor at the University of Havana and a specialist in gender studies, insisted on the need to broaden knowledge about rights and understand that gender issues are not only of interest to women since equity is a problem for everyone.

The Council of Ministers approved the Program for the Advancement of Women in October 2021. It was put into effect by Presidential Decree 198/2021 of March 8 of that year in the Official Gazette.

Its objectives are set in the equality of rights, opportunities, and possibilities and maintain as transversal axes the fight against discrimination and violence in all its manifestations.

It also proposes to overcome gaps by developing public policies and promoting education with a gender perspective in families, communities, and public servants.
