The Cuban Ministry of Public Health reported that in the last hours 62 people were diagnosed with the new coronavirus in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus, Havana, Ciego de Ávila and Mayabeque.
During the usual press conference featuring Dr. Francisco Durán García, MINSAP’s national chief of Epidemiology, it was learned that 7,438 tests were analyzed by PCR in real time.
With the data from this Saturday, the total number of infections in Cuba amounted to 5,780, since the first cases of COVID-19 were detected in March.
Dr. Durán García explained that in recent months the number of samples analyzed has increased and in March only 2,766 were made, a number considerably lower than the 217,999 that were carried out in September, to detect new cases of coronavirus in All the island.
Of the 62 cases announced this morning, one is a foreigner with temporary residence who arrived on the island, was isolated and the disease was detected and another imported case was a Cuban who also returned from abroad, although it was not explained if he was a collaborator of the island in Venezuela. Both citizens are residents of Havana.
Except for these two imported cases, the rest of the diagnoses correspond to counts of previously confirmed patients, a fact that the MINSAP gives importance to because it allows locating the source of infection of each patient and establishing a network to isolate those suspected may have the pandemic, explained Dr. Durán García.
However, in the last 15 days there are 48 people in whom it has been impossible to specify the source of infection, said the Cuban official.
Of all the cases detected, 44 were women and the same number of people did not present symptoms at the time of real-time PCR examination.
By age groups, COVID-19 was detected in 10 patients under 18 years old, between 19 and 59 years old, 54 and over 60 years old, a total of 8 patients, according to official data presented this Saturday.
The provinces where the new patients were detected were Sancti Spíritus (37), Havana (16), Ciego de Ávila (7) and Mayabeque (2).
“In Sancti Spíritus they are working hard, but there is a transmission that has gained importance,” said the health expert.
Currently in the capital there are three open local transmission events (with more than 10 cases detected) in the municipalities of Habana Vieja, Centro Habana and Diez de Octubre.
Although from the epidemiological point of view this is a favorable data, in Havana the disease continues to have a high incidence, since its dispersion throughout the province is wide, explained the national chief of Epidemiology of MINSAP.
For its part, in Ciego de Ávila the situation is still complex, since there are six local transmission events in the municipalities of Venezuela, Majagua, Morón and the capital city of the province.
The incidence rate continues to have Ciego de Ávila at the top of the list with a total of 58.34 per hundred thousand inhabitants in the last 15 days. They are followed in that order by Havana, Sancti Spíritus, Matanzas, Mayabeque, Artemisa, Camagüey and Holguín.
The rest of the territories have not reported cases for more than two weeks, according to the MINSAP.
Until this Friday, a total of 5,754 people had entered Cuba, of them 4,194 under surveillance, 1,222 are suspects and 538 are confirmed active. Of that last figure, only five maintain a critical or serious diagnosis and no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
As a positive data, there were a total of 40 medical discharges, which means that to date a total of 5,118 Cuban patients have been recovered. Medical discharges correspond to Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Ciego de Ávila and Holguín.
