Disney Prepares “Maleficent” Sequel

Deadline reported on Monday that Woolverton – who wrote the script of the first part – has also been signed for “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” a continuation of “Alice in Wonderland,” set for a 2016 release, with Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway in lead roles.

Angelina Jolie is expected to reprise the role of Maleficent in the sequel too.

The first part was a huge success, earning more than $750 million worldwide.

It marked the return of Disney to the world of “The Sleeping Beauty” with a version narrated from the point of view of the villain, played by Jolie.

In the film, she brings to life the wicked fairy, who cast a spell on Princess Aurora, played by Vivienne, the daughter of Jolie and Brad Pitt.

Jolie has been involved in the project as an executive producer and played a key role in designing the costumes and aesthetics of the main character and protagonist.

Joe Roth will produce the sequel, although it is not yet clear if Robert Stromberg, will don the director’s hat again.
