Cubadisco 2014 ends in Havana

During the concert, the Symphony Orchestra, directed by maestro Guido López-Gavilán, performed Ritmotiv, and Canto de Orishas, with famous Cuban percussionist Justo Pelladito.

The second part of the show included the performance by Obbiní Batá, a folkloric group composed of women. The closure was a surprising moment with soprano Bárbara Llanes, and Tambores de Bejucal, interpreting Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria. After this unique duet, the Tambores took people out of the theater with its overwhelming conga.

The closing speech was in charge of Cary Diez, vice president of the event. She highlighted the most important parts of the event, as well as the importance of this edition that has over 200 nominees and award-winners and the presence of 15 countries.

She also recalled important figures in Cuban music to whom the fair was dedicated to like Juan Formell, Tata Güines and Chano Pozo, and to the recently deceased poet and musician Luis Carbonell. Nonetheless, there was no detail on the next edition of this event.

During the evening, Orlando Vistel, president of the Cuban Music Institute and Cary Diez, granted the Cubadisco Honorary Awards to percussionist Luis Antonio Barrera and Guillermo Rubalcaba, and the group Tambores de Bejucal.
