The Cuban men's volleyball team won the title of the volleyball tournament of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023, by sweeping the Dominican Republic 3-0, at the Palacio de los Deportes Carlos El Famoso, and did so undefeated.

The volleyball players, under Nicolas Vives’ guide, were better once again. Nonetheless, they showed some inconsistencies in their overall performance. This time, the final line was 25-17, 25-17 and 25-22, although the Cubans made 24 errors.

Vives started Miguel Ángel López, Jesús Herrera, José Israel Masso, Javier Concepción, Marlon Yant, and Libán Taboada as the settler, while Yonder García played as the Libero.

According to the Games website, Cuba was better in attack, 33 points to 27, block (9-3) and serve (11-2), while the Dominicans made fewer errors of their own (22-24).

The game’s top scorers were Concepción, who garnered 12 points, four in attack, four in blocking and other four in service, and López (12/10-0-2).

Masso (11/5-4-2) and Herrera (11/10-0-1) also excelled for Cuba, while Héctor Alexis Cruz (10/9-0-1) stood out for the Dominican Republic.

The Cubans topped Pool A with three wins in a row against Suriname 3-0, the Dominican Republic 3-1, and Mexico 3-1. The beat Guatemala 3-0 in the semifinals.

The bronze medal went to Puerto Rico, which beat Guatemala 3-0, while Mexico and Suriname ended fifth and seventh places, after beating El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 and 3-1, respectively.
