The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a resolution ordering the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the war against Iran, a harsh political blow to President Donald Trump, who initiated the conflict in February.

The resolution, adopted with the support of four members of Trump’s Republican Party alongside Democrats, is largely symbolic, as the president can veto the measure if it passes the Senate.

“This is a powerful and unequivocal message to Donald Trump, on behalf of the American people: the time has come to end his deeply unpopular and illegal war of choice against Iran,” the Democratic members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee wrote on the social media platform X.

A similar measure had passed a crucial procedural stage in the Senate in late May.
