Guatemalan Party Congratulates Cuba on United Nations Support

The Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG) party congratulated the people and Government of Cuba today on the support received for the resolution approved at the United Nations against the United States embargo.
Through a statement, the political organization greeted the 130 nations that voted in favor of the measure presented by the largest island in the Caribbean and recognized the work of its diplomacy.
This support demonstrates the ongoing validity of the sovereign equality of States, non-intervention, and the right of every nation to decide its own destiny, considered the historical left-wing force in Guatemala.
From the land of the quetzal, the party expressed its solidarity with Cuban families and rejected measures that restrict their development possibilities and access to essential goods.
Health, nutrition, and the population's well-being must prevail over any policy of economic pressure, the URNG underlined.
For Latin America and the Caribbean, this vote supports the defense of sovereignty and the peaceful resolution of disputes, the party highlighted.
Our region needs relations of cooperation and mutual respect that allow its peoples to build their future without external impositions, the text asserted.
The party urged the Government and Congress of the United States to adopt the necessary decisions to lift the embargo and put an end to extraterritorial measures that affect Cuba's commercial and financial relations with other countries.
It called on the international community to maintain its support and to promote actions that help make this demand effective.
The URNG reaffirmed its solidarity with the Cuban people and celebrated the diplomatic defense of its demand, emphasizing that Cuba has the right to live in peace, develop, and decide its future without external coercion.
Two days ago, the organization itself condemned the persistence of measures that worsen difficulties in accessing food, medicine, fuel, technology, and financing, adversely affecting the living conditions of the island's population.
No political difference justifies imposing suffering on a people or using their essential needs as an instrument of pressure, the party emphasized.
