The Dominican Republic national soccer team drew 1–1 with Cuba on Monday in a competitive match within the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), held at Estadio Cibao in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros.
Cuba opened the scoring in the 50th minute when Dairon Reyes capitalized on a defensive lapse to put his side ahead, momentarily silencing the home crowd.
The Dominican response was swift. Just three minutes later, in the 53rd minute, Dorny Romero equalized following a well-constructed offensive play, restoring the crowd's enthusiasm inside the stadium.
From that point forward, the match settled into a more balanced contest, with both sides generating chances but neither able to break the stalemate before the final whistle.
In the five most recent meetings between these two nations, Cuba has held the upper hand, recording three victories and two draws against the Dominican Republic. Their previous encounter, played in November 2022, also ended in a 1–1 tie.
The Dominican Republic arrived at Monday's fixture following a 2–2 draw against El Salvador, a result that showcased a notable improvement in the team's offensive output. Cuba, meanwhile, had also drawn 2–2 in their prior match, against Martinique.
