Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Wednesday highlighted the majority support received by the island at the United Nations General Assembly, where the resolution demanding an end to the blockade was approved for the thirty-fourth time.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, the Cuban leader stated that the international community once again spoke out overwhelmingly against that policy, despite the pressures denounced by Cuban authorities in the days leading up to the vote.

"This victory for Cuba today at the United Nations General Assembly is a victory for the heroic Cuban people, who do not give up in the face of economic strangulation, threats and abuse by the U.S. government," the head of state expressed.

Díaz-Canel considered that the result constitutes a demonstration of international support for the island's historic demand against a policy that affects the country's economic and social development.

Lazo: "Victory of the Cuban people, of truth and of justice"

For his part, Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, described the result as a victory for the Cuban people, for truth and for justice within the United Nations.

"The vast majority of the international community demanded an end to the blockade," affirmed the head of the Cuban Parliament while commenting on the vote on the digital platform.

Marrero: 130 Countries Backed the Resolution

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero also celebrated the result and underscored that 130 countries backed the resolution presented by Cuba.

"Once again Cuba rises victorious at the UN with 130 countries voting in favor of ending the blockade," he wrote on X.

Voting Result

The General Assembly approved the resolution with 130 votes in favor, 17 against and 25 abstentions, during the final day of the annual debate on the need to end the blockade imposed by Washington against the largest of the Antilles.

For two days, representatives of dozens of countries spoke at the United Nations headquarters to express their positions on a draft resolution that Cuba has presented every year to the organization's highest deliberative body since 1992.

During the debate, the Cuban delegation maintained that the blockade has intensified to unprecedented levels over the past year and continues to have a strong impact on essential sectors of the economy and the daily life of the population.
