Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, questioned today that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is urging Cubans to collaborate with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) under the pretext of supposedly necessary changes on the island, when he could instead speak about those required by his own country.
On the social network Facebook, Fernández de Cossío expressed that the Secretary of State, when asked by a journalist about the reasons behind the recent call, was unable to explain—as if it were a secret—why he recruits agents in public to work for an espionage and covert operations agency whose dirty record is common knowledge.
The U.S. Secretary of State speaks of supposedly necessary changes in Cuba when he could talk about the ones his own country requires, which will not be resolved by an election like the one in the coming days, the Cuban vice foreign minister commented, referring to the midterm elections on November 3.
On the same digital platform, Cuban singer-songwriter Ariel Díaz ironized with humor regarding the calls for imposed changes on the island, stating that "for those who want changes: not even the time is going to change," referring to the decision by the Government and State of Cuba to maintain daylight saving time as a resilient energy-saving measure.
The denunciation comes in the context of the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington, which includes restrictions on access to fuel and energy.
