The Cuban U-20 national soccer team has been drawn into Group A of the 2026 Concacaf Championship, held in Mexico, as they pursue qualification for their third ever U-20 World Cup. To achieve this, the team must secure one of the four tickets available for the global tournament scheduled for 2027 in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

The "Lions of the Caribbean" will share their group with the United States, El Salvador, and Haiti. While the preliminary phase of the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship took place from February 23 to March 4, the final stage is set for July 25 to August 9. According to the digital sports portal Jit, matches will be held in Puebla (group stage and quarterfinals) and Mexico City (semifinals and final).

The 12 competing teams will be divided into three groups of four. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place finishers, will advance to the knockout stage, following a format of quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final.

The four semifinalists of the tournament will qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan as representatives of the confederation. Furthermore, the champion will join the United States in the Men's Olympic Football Tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. All of Cuba's opening-round matches will be played at the BUAP University Stadium in Puebla, starting Thursday, July 25, against El Salvador, followed by Haiti on Monday, July 28, and concluding against the United States on Thursday, July 31.

Group B consists of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Antigua and Barbuda, while Group C features Honduras, Panama, Canada, and Jamaica.

In the previous 2024 Concacaf qualifiers, the Cuban squad finished third in their group after defeating Jamaica 3-0, losing to the United States 0-4, and drawing 1-1 with Costa Rica. Subsequently, in the quarterfinals, the Cubans eliminated Honduras in a 5-3 penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time. Although they fell 0-2 to Mexico in the semifinals, that result guaranteed direct qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025—marking their second historical appearance after Turkey 2013.

During the group stage on Chilean soil, Cuba achieved a historic 2-2 draw against the powerhouse Italy, despite losing their other two matches 3-1 against Australia and the eventual world runners-up, Argentina.
