Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun affirmed today China's support for Cuba in defense of its sovereignty and national dignity, and demanded that the United States put an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade it has maintained against the island for 64 years.

Guo pointed out that, since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has passed resolutions demanding the lifting of the economic, commercial, and financial siege against Cuba for 34 consecutive years, with the backing of an overwhelming majority.

The spokesperson indicated that these votes reflect the rejection by the vast majority of countries of the grave violations by the United States of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

Likewise, he emphasized that the international community demands the immediate cessation of coercive measures that, as he expressed, severely infringe upon the Cuban people's right to subsistence and development.

China will continue to support the defense of Cuba's sovereignty and national dignity, as well as its opposition to external interference and the blockade, Guo stated.

The spokesperson once again urged Washington to listen to the demands of the international community, end the blockade and sanctions against the island, and immediately cease any form of threat or use of force against the Caribbean nation.

The day prior, Cuba received majority support from the international community in its fight against the blockade imposed by the United States, which has intensified to unprecedented levels during the administration of Donald Trump.

Despite diplomatic pressure and blackmail, 130 member states voted alongside Cuba in this denunciation that it has carried out every year since 1992.

Previously during the UN debate, Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, criticized the continuation of unilateral measures by the United States against the island and specified that there is no reason to continue with these illegal actions imposed 64 years ago.

He also stressed that it is unjustifiable to ignore the demand for justice that the Cuban people have been pursuing for 34 years.
