The blaze on Monday night at Grove Field in the city of Camas also burned three vehicles.

The Port of Camas-Washougal operates the public airport. Its executive director, David Ripp, tells KOIN the loss is well over $1 million.

The fire was reported at 10:22 pm.

Maintenance supervisor Steve Klopman tells The Columbian newspaper that firefighters prevented the flames from spreading. The airfield leases more than 70 hangar bays to private pilots for small fixed-wing aircraft.

There are no reports of anyone being inside at the time, and there's no word yet on the cause.

Camas sits across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, and has a population of about 19,000.
