Trump tries to blunt 'dementia' talk after confusing Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi

After setting off a wave of new speculation that he is in the throes of mental decline as he makes his third bid to be president, Donald Trump corrected the record on his Truth Social platform after he confused former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) for Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in a speech Friday night.

Speaking to a crowd in Concord, New Hampshire on Friday night, the embattled former president claimed he had offered Haley "10,000 people" to protect the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Specifically he stated, “Nikki Haley, you know they,do you know they destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, deleted and destroyed all of it. All of it because of lots of things like Nikki Haley is in charge of security. We offered her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they want. They turned it down. They don’t want to talk about that. These are very dishonest people.”

That, in turn, led to a flood of speculation about Trump's state of mind, with national security attorney Bradley P. Moss suggesting, "Do we need to do the dementia test again?" which was seconded by former MSNBC host Medhi Hasan.

Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VAS) added, "His confusion and lack of awareness is a trend. He's aging very fast. I hope his family is getting him the help he needs."

On Saturday morning, long after the Trump clip went viral, the former president corrected the record by re-making his false accusation that it was Pelosi who was responsible for the Jan. 6 chaos and damage.

Prefacing his post with a comical "REPORT," he added, "Nancy Pelosi was responsible for Security - She should not haven turned down the 10,000 solders offered by President Trump days before January 6. Also, the January 6th Unselect Committee of political Hack and Thugs should not have DELETED AND DESTROYED the Evidence and Findings of their Committee. What they did is illegal- A CRIME!!!"
