The candidate for the Workers' Party (PT), Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is the president-elect of Brazil after the ballot held this Sunday, according to the results issued by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). With almost 99 percent of the ballots counted, Lula obtained more than 50.7 percent of the votes cast.
According to the TSE's web portal, with 98.28 percent of the tallies counted, Lula has more than 50.79 percent of the votes against 49.21 percent of the current president, Jair Bolsonaro. More than 156 million Brazilians were summoned for this election day, who were able to go to the 472,075 centers opened in 5,570 cities of the country, while abroad they were established in 181 locations.
Lula won the first round of the presidential elections, held last October 2, with 48.4 percent and Bolsonaro obtained 43.2 percent.
