New Delhi, Jul 8 (Prensa Latina) Professors, university students and members of the solidarity with Cuba movement celebrated, at the University of Jadavpur in Calcutta, the 63th anniversary of the visit of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara to India.

This event, whose slogan was “Che and Cuba: Humanity and an alternative vision”, became a space to defend the Cuban Revolution and its achievements for over 60 years developing a socialist economic and social project, led by the ideals of Fidel Castro, Ernesto Che Guevara, Raul and other Cuban leaders.

Consistent with the principles of solidarity and internationalism practiced by Che, the participants condemned the illegal and genocidal economic, commercial and financial bloackade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

They also condemned the unconventional war, subversion and social destabilization campaigns that the US government deploys against Cuba.

The feeling of friendship and solidarity between the Cuban and Indian peoples was uplifted with Cuban songs such as “Guantanamera” and “Hasta Siempre Comandante, sung in Bengali.

As part of the program, organized by the subsidiary in West Bengal of All India Peace and Solidairy Organisation (AIPSO) and the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba, several episodes of the documentary series “Che en la memoria” (Che in our Memory) were screened.

A prominent revolutionary, doctor, minister, economist, statesman and also diplomat, Che Guevara traveled to New Delhi in 1959 to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba.
