Cuba’s President of the National Assembly of People's Power- Parliament (ANPP) Esteban Lazo praised on Sunday the outstanding ongoing relations with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

“Our inter-parliamentary ties are of extraordinary significance, grounded in the close bonds that unite our peoples and the role we can play to promote cooperation and inter-State ties,” Lazo wrote in a letter addressed to the President of the Federation Council of the Russian Parliament, Valentina Matvienko.

According to information published on the website of Cuba’s Legislative, the letter was sent on Saturday on behalf of Cuban legislators on Matvienko’s birthday.

Lazo highlighted the brilliant career of the Russian leader and acknowledged her “enormous affection and solidarity” towards Cuba.

Valentina Matvienko visited Cuba in 2013, when she signed a memorandum of understanding with the ANPP; and in 2019, when attending the celebrations on the 500th anniversary of the founding of the village of San Cristobal de La Habana.

In December 2022, the head of the Cuban Parliament presented his Russian counterpart with the Order “Of Solidarity,” during his official visit to Moscow; award approved by the President of the Republic of Cuba, at the proposal of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.

At the ceremony, Lazo further pondered that the Russian legislator is a pillar in the bilateral relations between both parliaments, supports every year pronouncements of the Federation Council for the end of the US blockade against Cuba and significantly supports everything that can favor political, economic, commercial, cultural and social relations between the two nations.

Valentina Matvienko promotes the need for cooperation between the regions of Russia and Cuba, as new ways of fruitful exchange of great interest for both sides.
